ABOUT THE BEAR

Drop the Bear is basically “an outlet for the other thoughts and ideas” of singer/songwriters, performing/recording artists, and multi-instrumentalists, Drew Smith and Max Bergstrom.

Drew has been an active drummer in the San Diego music scene since the mid 90’s, playing mostly with some highly charged rock, punk, and hardcore staples such as Convicted, Motionless, and The BiNGE. From there, he picked up the frontman torch and led such heavy hitters as Save Amos, and currently leading San Diego Music Awards’ 2020 Best Rock Album nominees, The Rough.

Max hails from the great city of St. Paul, MN, having moved to San Diego in 2015 with his rock band, Avenue Army. Max has had the pleasure of touring with bands such as Saving Abel, 3 Pill Morning, The Ataris, and Alien Ant Farm over his time leading Avenue Army. He’s been writing. performing, and recording for over 25 years.

The sounds of this new project, Drop the Bear, has an industrial/electronic heaviness that meets pop punk/rock mixed with classical symphonic strings, seasoned with a bit of R&B, blues, and jazz.
